Chair’s Report on Summer Fair

A terrific turnout on Sat 18th June for the Summer Fair. The Fair was opened by Revd. Patrick Parkes our new Priest in Charge for Wolborough and Ogwell, followed by ZC Dance School’s mini show ( a mix of ballet, contemporary and street dance) after which the ever popular Dog Show got underway. Another regular favourite was the Canada Hill Primary School Music Group children singing a medley of songs for us.
There was something for everyone, from the traditional favourites of welly-wanging and the coconut shy to an opportunity to have an animal encounter with a snake, lizard or other creatures! There was plenty for young and old alike, Cosmo and his amazing magic show and balloon car, traditional games, lucky lollipops, hook a duck, face-painting, bouncy castle and other favourites alongside wood-turning demos, vintage vehicles and craft, jewellery, book and plant sales. A relaxed atmosphere was created by the Ian Milsom Duo.
There were refreshments a-plenty, Cream teas, cakes, BBQ, The Union Inn’s Hog Roast, Yannis’ Greek Souvlaki and a choice of beverages to wash it down, whether a glass of cider from Agy’s, a pint from The Jolly Sailor, a Pimms or a good old cuppa from the WI ladies.
After the raffle was drawn, everyone took a chance to take a breather and put the children to bed before returning to watch the sun go down over Dartmoor to the sound of Jukebox Fury and make a last bid on the Silent Auction.
The Fair proceeds are yet to be determined, but look on track to share several thousand pounds once again amongst our local community groups.
I would like to thank the Ogwell Fair Committee and all the volunteers who pitched in to make it another great Ogwell event. Well done everyone, we cannot do it without you, the Fair relies on volunteers, donations and a good turnout, even the weather was on our side.
Samantha Simmons, Chair Ogwell Fair Committee.
