BT Openreach currently have a temporary road closure order in place for Canada Hill that means inconvenience for those of us who use this route. This could continue until 1st May between the hours of 9.30 and 15.30.
On this occasion the short term pain is at least for the long term gain of local residents. The work is required in order to bring a fibre-optic cable to the BT cabinet serving the older part of Ogwell where broadband speeds struggle to beat 1Mbps (against a national average of over 15Mbps).
Unfortunately the location of the access points for the existing ducting and the narrowness of the road mean that use of stop & go boards is not feasible. To compound matters, investigations have revealed that damaged ducting means that the road will need to be excavated in places. However, as at Wednesday (22nd April) progress has been made down Canada Hill from Ogwell Green to roughly where the old telephone box used to be.
Further updates will be posted as information becomes available.
